Tragic Fatal Fairwood Accident Takes Life of 71 Year-Old

Yesterday afternoon the Fairwood area was struck with a tragic motorcycle-car accident on Petrovitsky Road at Parkside Way SE, the access road to Petrovitsky Park.

King County Sheriff spokesperson Sargent Ryan Abbott provided additional details about the tragedy.

“What we know of now was a 71 year-old male (we don’t release names of deceased people) was riding eastbound on SE Petrovitsky at about 12:30pm.  As he came to a stop at a red light at Parkside Way SE, a vehicle behind him also traveling eastbound did not notice that the light was red or that the motorcycle was stopped. The vehicle struck the motorcycle from behind, pushing him through the intersection and sadly killing the rider, who suffered massive head trauma.”

Both east and westbound traffic were closed for several hours. An investigation is ongoing.

A major east-west road for Fairwood and Maple Valley neighbors, Petrovitsky is often a road where commuters travel at speeds exceeding limits, and as a result, unfortunate accidents occur.

Please be aware and safe, neighbors!

  1. So very sad; condolences to all involved. Pleas-everyone-obey the rules of the road. Drive safely, defensively; with patience and awareness.

    • Many motorcycle/car accidents in the local area lately. All drivers need to be vigilant and drive safe. This fatality should be on the front page to help save lives. I hope he never saw it coming.

  2. I was 3 cars back heading west. The automobile had extensive front end damage and appeared to be on top the motorcycle. The cycle rider was on the side of the road not being attended.
