Relocation of Asphalt Plant to Maple Valley Highway Meeting Today

One of several options considered for the future Lakepointe Development site.

Community members are holding a meeting today at 3:30 pm at the Maple Valley Library to discuss the relocation of Lakeside Industries’ Asphalt Plant from its current location next to Highway 18 in Covington to a site along Maple Valley Highway.

Once permitting is approved for its new location, Lakeside anticipates construction will take six to eight months.  Currently the new plant is on hold because of a King County Council Ordinance declared a six-month moratorium on the project.  The moratorium ends mid-May.

The move was prompted by the end if its lease at Lakeside’s current location. Lakeside notes the Maple Valley site is already zoned for industrial use.

Plans are to develop the site into a residential and commercial community, Lakepointe, previously known as the Hawk Property.

Organizers of today’s meeting encourage attendees to carpool because of limited parking available at the library.
