Maple Valley Crash Kills One, Critically Injures Another

Last night at 8:40pm, a fatality crash occurred at SE 251st and Maple Valley-Black Diamond RD SE (SR 169).

The investigation is ongoing, but King County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that three motorcycles were northbound on SR 169, and as they neared the intersection with SE 251st, a black sedan attempted reverse its direction and drive southbound on SR 169. That direction change was made from a center turn lane.

The lead motorcycle hit the left rear portion of the car, causing it to spin. The second motorcycle struck the same sedan head on. The third motorcycle was able to avoid any contact. The sedan driver, a 43 year-old female, was transported to Valley Hospital for evaluation, and she did not appear injured. The rider of the first motorcycle, a 54 year-old male from Renton was killed; and the second rider, a 35 year-old male from Renton, was critically injured and airlifted to Harborview Hospital.

Numerous witnesses reported that the motorcyclists may have been driving recklessly prior to the crash. Detectives are investigating those reports.
