CVAC Softball, Baseball
Sign-Ups Begin

Kids have an opportunity to sign up for one of America's greatest activities: Baseball.

CVAC's President says this photo reinforces their focus: "Kids playing baseball with caring instruction and support from our coaches.

ocal neighborhood sports group, Cascade Vista Athletic Club (CVAC) has begun its spring registration with sign up events for both baseball and softball at Benson's Play It Again Sports. With three Saturday Sign-Ups left, kids can join a team and be a part of this nation's favorite All-American sport.

One of the area's oldest clubs, CVAC begins its 46th season providing good clean fun in our community. Both boys and girls are encouraged to join, and kids can be a part of a team as young as five years old. They'll get an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of baseball and experiencing the benefits of team sports. CVAC offers leagues to youth through age 18.

One indicator of the club's longevity is that CVAC owns a prime piece of real estate in the nearby Cascade neighborhood. The CVAC baseball field is a landmark at the corner of 116th Ave. SE and SE 168th Street, adjacent to the Cascade Shopping Center.

By all appearances, that landmark will never move, providing a practice field for the little players while older CVAC teams head over to larger fields at Lindbergh High School.

Games for ages 5-12 are nearby at Benson Hill, Tiffany Park, and Renton Park Schools, and games are also at King of Kings Lutheran Church.

T-Ball for Beginners
Kids ages 5 and 6 are introduced to the sport witha T-Ball format, and a mix of T-Ball and pitching machines begin around six years of age. Full pitching by the kids begins at ages 9-10.

CVAC softball is a female-only league, while baseball is co-ed. Girls' softball starts at age 8, so all girls, ages 5-7 are together with boys playing baseball. By the time girls turn 11 or 12, most of the female players migrate into the CVAC softball league.

Sign-Ups
According to CVAC President Lonnie King, a new registration form must now be completed. "Due to new Washington State Legislation there will be new forms required for registration.  It is highly recommended that you register in person and not through the mail.  Feel free to print out the forms once they are available, fill them out at home, and bring them with
you when you register," said King.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the CVAC site at www.cvac.org.

Remaining Sign-Up Saturday dates at Play It Again are as follows:

01/23/10          12pm-4pm
01/30/10          12pm-4pm
02/06/10          12pm-4pm

Parents, Guardians and Kids who have additional questions are encouraged to contact King at cvac.president@gmail.com.
